Abstract
Overall, in 2021, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries accounted for more than one-fifth of energy consumption in the manufacturing sector in Germany. According to an article in CHEManager from 2020, measures for efficient energy consumption in the pharmaceutical industry can lead to a reduction of around 30% in energy costs. A first step towards increasing energy efficiency is to monitor the real energy consumption of the operating systems and the infrastructure, such as clean rooms. The presentation shows how a holistic energy data acquisition concept for pharmaceutical production can be set up and which boundary conditions have to be taken into account.

Abstract
Many companies fail in their Digital transformation and get trapped in the “pilot purgatory”
The triangle PEOPLE, PROCESSES, TECHNOLOGY provides a good frame for an integrated Automation and Digitalization plan.
Those companies with strong focus on People, people development and growing capabilities are likely to be more successful than those starting with Technology plans.
A specific plan for determining what are the required capabilities, what is the gap, and to develop them is the first step. The focus is not only on the persons creating or developing the tools, but on those using them. An organizational Blueprint helps create a reference for the sites development and gap assessment
Several new processes should be created or adapted. It is needed an Automation & Digitalization Master plan that defines the business goal, the technologies to be used, and the resources needed to execute.
Finally, a technology Roadmap that creates priorities, predecessors, and define the Foundational aspects that are pre-requisites for advanced technologies is necessary.
As a summary, a harmonized development of the People, Process and Technology, with the associated interlinked plan in place will yield the desired results.
